I'm Going To Pattaya's Walking Street. Where Do I Go First?

You have flown half way around the world and have survived the taxi ride from Bangkok to Pattaya. You checked in to your hotel room, took a nap and showered. You are ready to go out and party.

You friends have told you that the place to go first is Walking Street. You have confirmed this at some of the Pattaya forums you visited before you left home. You are ready, but, where do you go first.

If it is still light out, you may want to start out with a bite of food at any of the street vendors or visit one of the many beer bars.

Just before the entrance of Walking Street, on the right or water side of the road, is a beer bar complex with about 20 bars. They are all very tiny rectangles with 5 - 15 girls inside of each one. Drinks are cheap, competition is ferocious, and the place is a lot of fun.

There are other beet bars scattered about but not in such a large grouping. But, if you like it a little quieter and cheaper, then beer bars are for you.
If the sun has set and it is a bit darker out, it is time to check out the hostess bars. There are 3 or 4 of them on or near Walking Street and all are worth a look. The FLB Bar, Secrets, and Lennie's come to mind. All are laid back and cater to the older gentleman. The music is good, prices are reasonable, and the girls are friendly.

Or, you can always go and visit one of the many go-go's on Walking Street. There are any places to go to see eye candy. Be warned that the music will be louder, prices will be higher and the girls will be more expensive. Attitudes may reign or you may get lucky and find a good lady.

You will have many choices and opportunities on Walking Street. From beer bars to hostess bars to go-go's, you will have the time of your life. Don't worry about you age or your looks, as long as you have enough money, you will have a great time.

Describing Walking Street is sort of like trying to explain Las Vegas to someone who has neve! r been. You really have to experience it in person to get the ! full eff ect. It is hard to describe the sights, sounds and smells of Pattaya and Walking Street. You will just have to save your money, book you flight, and get to Pattaya and enjoy it for yourself.

Have a great time and be safe. Enjoy your Pattaya stay and experience the craziness of Walking Street.

Close to the Forums see the Trajan Markets and the Coliseum, the biggest amphitheatre ever build in the antiquity (80 AD): 52 metres high and a capacity of 70 000 spectators! Believer or not a glance to the Vatican is a must Even a visit to St Peter's Cathedral as it is free, would be a good idea! You can even decide to make your path up to the enormous dome where you can enjoy a fantastic view of Rome.

If you wish to get an accommodation in that area, the best accommodation solution will probably be in some private apartments that are flourishing there. There are not so much B&B in the quarter nor cheap hotels, but try the family apartments that are easily 'bookable' online at Flashbooking.com. Some of them really share a fantastic view over San Peter and Castel S. Angelo.

When I talk about the Pattaya blues I am not referring to music. I am talking about the feeling of remorse you have after you have just spent the best three weeks of your life.

Every single man who has ever experienced Pattaya knows this feeling. The symptoms usually start two to three days before your flight back home.

You have been having a blast partying day and night for a few weeks and the reality of going back home is starting to sink in. You realize that in a matter of days you will be back to your miserable ! town, your terrible job, and cold weather in winter.

You start to realize that you won't be able to get great meals for a few dollars. You are going to miss all of those lovely lasses and their Thai smiles. You will really miss the laid back, mai pen rai attitude that everyone in Thailand has.

With the blues setting in, you will try to live your last couple of days in Pattaya to the fullest. You will go out and eat, drink and be crazy. You will do all of the shopping that you should have done the first two weeks. You will try to cram another two weeks of fun into your last two days.

And then the fateful day will come. You will have to face the eventuality that you have to go back to Bangkok and catch your flight back home. You will plan your last night to go everywhere and do everything. There will be a lot of "good-bye's" and farewell toasts. You will visit all of your favorite bars and try to decide what you will wind up doing on your last night in fu! n city.

And then the taxi arrives and you mope all the ! way to t he airport. You will fondly remember all the good times and snap back to reality and remember that you are going back to the real world.

On the plane you will relive every moment of the past few weeks. The good, bad, and possibly ugly. And then you will start to think about your return trip. You will try to figure out how you can get two vacations in one year instead of just one. How you can earn extra money so you can get back to Pattaya as soon as possible.

Landing at your home airport will jolt you back to reality. You will clear customs and head home. You may spend time looking at your vacation pictures and surfing the net for Pattaya pages.

You will go to forums to post your trip report and tell others about your great vacation. You will listen to Thai music and watch some of the videos you bought. You will tell your friends and co-workers tales of your trip that they won't believe in a million years.

You will search for a cure for the Pattay! a Blues and one day you will realize that the only cure is to return. There is no other medicine, drug, or magic potion that will cure you. You have to return. So you do the math, check with the boss, work the overtime and buy your return ticket.

You are not cured yet, but you are starting to feel better. The symptoms will stay with you right up until you board the plane for your flight to Pattaya, Thailand. Then you will finally be cured, or will you?

No visit to Bangkok is complete without visiting the temples in the city. The temples, or wats, are all over and the main temples can be seen in a day or two.

You can either plan your own trip or check in the lobby of your hotel and sign up for a ½ or full day trip. There are 5 temples that are definite "must see".

Wat Arun is the temple of the dawn. It is located on the Chao Phraya River. As the name indicates, it is ideal to visit first thing in the morning as the sun rises. This way you will see the sun bounce off the walls of the templ! e with a pearly iridescence.

Wat Phra Kaew, or the temple of the Emerald Buddha, is in the heart of Bangkok, at the Royal Palace. Despite the name, the statue is really made of jade and is adorned in golden garments. There are three sets of gold clothing that are changed according to the seasons.

Like all the temples, you should dress appropriately. For the men, this means slacks and a collar shirt. For the ladies, wear a dress and cover as much skin as possible. If you are improperly dressed, you will either be turned away or be offered to rent some clothes.

Another temple to visit is Wat Pho. This is the temple of the Reclining Buddha. This is the oldest temple in Bangkok and houses over 1,000 images of Buddha. The Reclining Buddha is 46 meters long, plated in gold, with inlaid mother of pearl on his eyes and soles of his feet.

Next is Wat Benchamabophit. This is a beautiful marble temple built in 1899. Inside the Ordination Hall (Ubosot) is a! Sukhothai-style Buddha statue named Phra Buddhajinaraja, cast! in 1920 after the original located in Wat Mahathat in Phitsanulok. The ashes of King Chulalongkorn are buried beneath the statue. In the gallery surrounding the ordination hall are 52 Buddha statues, collected by Prince Damrong Rajanubhab for his king.

Lastly, is Wat Tramit, the Golden Buddha. This is a fascinating story and a temple you have to see. You need to read the history and learn how the Thai people hid this Buddha in clay to keep the Burmese from taking it and melting down the gold for war. It went undiscovered until an accident chipped away some of the clay to reveal part of the 5 tons of gold. No guards in sight as no one would dare steal it.

Whether you are religious or not, visiting the temples in Bangkok or anywhere else in Thailand is something you should do.

Tipping customs vary greatly from country to country. If you get things wrong, you can be exposed to significant embarrassment, so here are a few tipping dos and don'ts for some of the most common - and one or two unusual - destinations.

Europe

In restaurants in France, service must be included in the total amount by law, so there is no need for an additional tip. Tip taxi drivers 10 percent of the fare, and porters one euro per bag.

Restaurants in Italy usually implement a cover charge, so a tip! is not generally expected, although a small-amount (say 5 percent) is appreciated. It is not strictly necessary to tip taxis, but porters expect a euro or two.

In Germany a service charge of 15 percent is included in a restaurant charge. It is usual to round this figure up to an exact number of euros. If however, more than one person is dining, the tip should be increased to between 3 percent and 5 percent (ending in a full euro amount).

Tipping in Spain traditionally is loose change in restaurants, but 3-5 percent is becoming more the norm today.

In Belgium, tipping is rare, as restaurant, hairdresser and taxi charges include service. If you're particularly happy with the service you've received, then you can round up the bill (but by never more than 10 percent). Similarly, in Holland, rounding up is always appreciated.

In the United Kingdom, when a gratuity or service charge is not added in a restaurant, peop! le normally add around 10% as a tip. Around 10% is also expect! ed in a taxi, while small tips of 1 or 2 pounds are often given in hairdressers and hotels.

The Americas

In the US tips can be the major source of income for people in the service industry and anything less than 15 percent in a restaurant will be sniffed at. Bartenders expect a couple of dollars in the pot, even if you are standing at the bar (fail to do this and buying the next round might take a long time) and taxi drivers expect a 15 percent tip.

Gratuities or service charges are normally not included in restaurants in Canada. Tip between 15 percent and 20 percent, according to how satisfied you are. You should also tip all kinds of service people in hotels - not just those who carry your bags.

In Mexico a small tip is expected for almost any service, and in restaurants the amount you leave is entirely at your discretion.

Asia

In Japan tipping is simply not done and could be considered an insult.

In China waiters will often refuse even the smallest tip.

In South Korea, tipping is neither required nor expected, but most luxury hotels and restaurants add a compulsory 10 percent service charge. In North Korea tipping is not only impolite, but also illegal.

Hong Kong restaurants usually add 10 percent service charge, but you can add a further 5 percent to 10 percent if you're really satisfied.

Australasia

Tipping in Australia is generally not expected, but 10 percent after a meal is polite and taxi fares can be rounded up to the nearest dollar.

Tipping is not customary or required in New Zealand. However, a tip of around 10 percent for exceptional service will be happily accepted.

Wherever your trip takes you, it's always a good idea to at least check on the expectations for tipping taxi drivers and hotel staff before you set off.

When you think of Sydney, the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and Bondi Beach are normally the first things you would think of. But there is a lot more to Sydney then these common tourist attractions, with some of the best national parks, hidden beaches, treks, diving spots found anyway in the world.

What I'm about to share with you is some inside i! nformation, that most locals don't even know about.

Sydney's best National Parks + Treks

The Manly Scenic Walkway: This walk has been established across both national park and local council reserves to form one of the world's great harbourside walks. With stunning views on offer throughout, the track covers 8km from the Spit Bridge to Manly around the harbour's northern foreshores.
Bradleys Head: The walking track around Bradleys Head provides an ideal opportunity to view the majority Sydney icons such as the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and Fort Denison while on a gentle stroll in a natural bushland setting.
Blue Mountains National Park: Walk through World Heritage landscape that has become famous for its lookouts, waterfalls and sandstone cliffs. With over 140km of walking tracks for all grades, its a great day out for the whole family. See the Three Sisters at Echo Point or explore the historic Mt Werong and Ruby Creek area.
Ku-Ring-Gai Chase! National Park: Offers a rich variety of things to see and do ! in a nat ural setting adjacent to Sydney's northern suburbs. If your heading that way make sure you do the Sphinx walking track to Bobbin Head where you can reward yourself with a beautiful lunch at the marina or drive to West Head and take the 2km Resolute Track down to Resolute Beach.

1. Resolute Beach, West Head - Though its a 2km trek down a steep hill, the rewards are more than worth it once you arrive at this beautiful beach. During the walk, you'll take in spectacular views of Pittwater, Palm Beach and Barrenjoey, and if you look hard enough, you'll also discover Aboriginal carvings.
2. Camp Cove, Watsons Bay - Lined with mansions along the foreshore, this beautiful hidden beach is quite commonly visited by multi-million dolalr boats who anchor just off the shore. This is a fantastic beach for swimming and one of the leading spots for scuba-diving.
3. Shelly Beach, Manly - A short stroll along Manly's promenade, Shelly Beach is one of Sydn! ey's best aquatic reserves. Perfect for snorkelling and picnics.
4. Milk Beach, Vaucluse - Is a calm, sandy cove hidden behind Strickland House. It's a short, steep walk down the driveway and across the lawn, but beachgoers will be rewarded with beautiful views across the water of the city, the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
5. Echo Beach - Situated at Echo Point Park, it contains seven Aboriginal sites, a children's playground, barbecue and picnic area. Also popular for fishing and paddling.

Marque: Offering tantalising meals that has made Marque famous over the years. Including amuse bouche - a sublime chaud-froid of egg - which might be follo! wed by a creamy boudin noir with samphire topped with a single silver anchovy.

Pier: In the glass-encased finger of wharf jutting into Rose Bay, Greg Doyle serves arguably the country's best seafood. The keynotes being restraint and delicacy, with the dishes being so fresh you'd swear that they had been caught to order. While you're there it's a must to try award winning pastry chef Katrina Kanetani's desserts!

Quay: With its stunning sweep of the Opera House, Bridge and harbour views, this is one of Sydney's finest settings. Equally impressive is the dynamic, dramatic and deeply intelligent food, including poached quail breasts, suckling pig and a sensational millefeuille.

Tetsuya's: Saving the best for last, this Japanese restaurant is arguably the best in the world. You'll be made to feel like a star as you work your way through their famed 12 course degustation menu. It's an endlessly impressive and inventive show that will make you want to appla! ud and yell "bravo!"

The airport security officers have to screen everyone, regardless of age (even babies), before they can go through the security checkpoint.
They will not ask you to do anything that will separate you from your child or children.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers are specially trained and they understand your concern for your children. They will approach your children gently and treat them with respect. If your child becomes uncomfortable or upset, security officers will consult you abou! t the best way to relieve your child's concern.

NEVER leave babies in an infant carrier while it goes through the X-ray machine.

* All carry-on baggage, including children's bags and items, must go through the X-ray machine. Examples include: diaper bags, blankets, and toys.

* All child-related equipment that will fit through the X-ray machine must go through the X-ray machine. Examples include: strollers, umbrella-strollers, baby carriers, car and booster seats, backpacks, and baby slings.

* When you arrive at the checkpoint, collapse or fold your child-related equipment. Secure items that are in the pockets, baskets, or attached to the equipment and place it on the X-ray belt for inspection. Plastic bins are provided to deposit such items.

* If any of your child-related equipment does not fit through the X-ray machine, security officers will visually and physically inspect it.

* Ask a Security Officer for help gathering your ! bags and child-related equipment, if you need it.

If yo! ur child can walk without your assistance, we recommend that you and your child walk through the metal detector separately. If you are carrying your child through the metal detector and the alarm sounds, the Security Officer will have to additionally screen both you and your child.

* Remove babies and children from their strollers or infant carriers so that the Security Officers can screen them individually.

* You may not pass the child to another person behind you or in front of you during this process.

* Do not pass your child to the Security Officer to hold.

* The Security Officer may ask for your help screening your child

The security personnel are just doing their job keeping the airways safe. Please cooperate and it will make your security screening go much smoother.
