Florence for young travellers

Florence for young travellersBy: Michele De Capitani, Posted On: 2007-12-28

Among academies, libraries and museums, religious monuments, churches, civil architecture and buildings you will experience you really are in a treasure hunting. For this reason not only tourists, or backpackers but prevalently international students or even international volunteers are choosing this city for their academic courses, stages and studies.

Well, to start, we mention an international place where students, travellers, journalists and actors usually meet: at Acqua al 2 you can get cannelloni, b! eef, selection of salads, pasta, cheese and excellent wines at average prices of €30. Acqual al 2 is a modern bistro that we suggest in Via Vigna Vecchia ,40; ph: +39 055 284 170; open daily from 7.30 pm-1am).

If you are visiting Florence and you are on a budget and looking for cheap accommodation consider youth hostels, backpackers hostels or international students houses ( hostels as well) where a bed night average price start from 18 euros. The atmosphere is quite basic but somehow fascinating. Florence does not have a long tradition in modern hippie youth hostels as you might find in other top cities. Florence rather can offer old style hostels, kind of student residence, or pilgrim residence as it was in Medieval times. Monasteries are converted in new pilgrims hostels ( backpackers, students, international volunteers) sometimes still run by nuns or monks. You can find some more details in site for young travellers or backpackers as Flashboking.com.

For b! udget tips where to go shopping here we go!

It is possi! ble to m ake excellent purchases in the narrow lanes and streets of Florence in particular around Santa Croce and Oltrarno you can easily find little authentic workshops of paper, leather, perfumes...

Some names: Il Papiro offers good quality hand-made paper in Piazza del Duomo, 24r (ph: +39 055 281 628). Officina Profumo Farmaceutica Shop an old fashioned chemist offers lotions, potions, and herbal remedies abound in elegant packaging in Via Scala, 16 (ph: +39 055 16276 )

Go to Piazza dei Ciompi if you are looking for second-hand and flea markets (last Sun. of the month), or to S. Lorenzo Market (northwest of the Duomo), or the colourful Central Market for food (Square of Mercato Centrale). Here you 'll find olives, hams, cheeses and fresh vegetables. Try Via Maggio and Borgo Ognissanti for fine Florentine antique shops.

Of course for anything you need, ticket booking, accommodations booking, hotel reservations, budget trattorie, or simply to locate all this on! a map you need a pc and an internet point ( as not all youth hostel will have pc free fro every guest!!). There are a few in Florence. Internet point (Borgo degli Albizi 66; ph:+39 055 24 0780; €3/hour); Internet Train: (€4/hour or €3/hour for students) with 12 point sin the city: Via dell'Oriuolo, 40, ph: +39 055 2345 322; Via del Parione 11b, ph:+39 055 264 5563; Borgo S. Jacopo, ph: +39 055 265 7935).

Reykjavik Beach Club

Reykjavik Beach Club Webwww.articlecube.com

Home | Travel & Leisure | Travel Tips

Reykjavik Beach ClubBy: David Brooks, Posted On: 2007-12-28

No, well get out your beach towels. For, on a beautiful, sunny and calm summer day, admittedly a rare meteorological occurrence at this latitude, you may want to visit Nautholsvik (pronounced "nay-tolls-veek") for a day at the beach. Yes, there's a beach in Reykjavik, the capital city of Iceland, and on very good day you can sunbathe, play volleyball, build sandcastles and even swim. Truth be told you could do many of these things on any day just not in a swimsuit. Iceland is famous, or shall I say notorious, for its capricious weather. That! 's not to say that there isn't nice weather here. It just won't stay that way and warm days are somewhat rare, all of which creates a sense of urgency to get out and soak up the sun. The day I visited Reykjavik's "thermal beach," as it is called here, was on a particularly splendid Saturday in July, the skies were clear, the winds calm and the temperature was about 19 degrees Celsius (66 degrees Fahrenheit) -- downright warm for Iceland.

Nautholsvik is situated in a nice little cove at the mouth of a small bay and is not far from downtown Reykjavik. If you are ever here and want to find this beach just locate the Reykjavik Airport and follow the road that parallels the runway to the end. Yes, it is right near an airport but it is just a small regional airport for domestic flights and not a big noise disturbance. On the contrary, it's kind of interesting to see the various small aircraft taking off and landing. Nautholsvik is mostly man-made: the sand was brought from! elsewhere and the ocean swimming area artificially created. I! t has tw o fresh water swimming/wading pools more like oversized hot tubs, called hot pots, both with heated fresh water. The two hot pots are kept at about 38 degrees Celsius (about 100 Fahrenheit) and the ocean swimming area is about 30 degrees Celsius (about 86 Fahrenheit). There's a nominal charge of 200 kronur (about $2.75) per person to swim in the hot pots; other then that the beach is free. There's also a nice
building adjacent to the rectangle shaped pool where you can borrow a locker, change into your swimsuit and buy ice cream and other snacks. The whole thing is run by a city wide organization called ?r? Og T?undar?Reykjav?r (a mouthful), ?R for short. They are the same organization that's in charge of all the pools and spas in Reykjavik.

Your day at Nauth?ik can include most of the standard beach activities - sorry, no surfing. It even has a very nice paved walkway that follows the ocean, circling around the airport in one direction and following along the bay! in the other direction. People rollerblade, walk, run and bicycle along this route. There's even a small coffee house near the beach sporting a traditional Icelandic sod roof. There you can have the refreshment of your choice and watch the people go by or daydream about traveling to an island way out in the North Atlantic, just below the Arctic Circle. Wait that´s where I am! And, I can't help but be almost constantly amazed by the irony of this place given its global position. Planet Earth is an amazing, beautiful and diverse place.
Nautholsvik used to be just the site of a small, natural hot water stream that fed into the ocean and Icelanders have been coming here to bath for years. Though I wonder how warm the bathing area was back then with just a small hot water stream flowing into the bay. This spot is no longer dependent on a small stream and has its own connection to the city's hot water supply which, coincidentally is located in five huge tanks on the hill abov! e the beach at a site called Perlan (the pearl). Iceland has h! ot water in spades; it is the lifeblood of this country. And, it is used for just about everything, from home heating to warming the ocean water for swimming. Let's face it without this abundant hot water swimming here would be unbearable.

It is redundant and almost clich?o say that Iceland is a land of extremes and contrasts, I know. But, the truth is, everywhere you look you are reminded of this fact. Nauth??is just another example of this. Iceland is a beautiful country and there is so much more to see. It can also be a harsh land. These contrasts come together to create an atmosphere and mood that is totally unique. And, when the weather decides to cooperate and the sun shines and the sky is clear, I have rarely seen a more beautiful place than here. The views go on and on as far as the eye can see, the air is clean and clear and the temperature can soar - well, sort of. So, if you come to Iceland, don't forget your sunscreen.

A! rticle Directory: http://www.articlecube.com

If you decide to visit and are looking for things to do in Iceland, consider an Iceland tour. There are many tour operators located right in Reykjavik, it's worth the investment. - David Brooks

Personal Safety in Italy

Personal Safety in Italy Webwww.articlecube.com

Home | Travel & Leisure | Travel Tips

Personal Safety in ItalyBy: www.TourBuzz.Biz, Posted On: 2007-12-27

Picture this:

You're finally on vacation! You have been planning this trip to Italy for over a year. You're excited! The last thing on your mind is being a victim of a crime, right?

WRONG!

Unfortunately, we are living in a world where we MUST anticipate the unfortunate.

When you are in a foreign country, such as Italy, you must ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings. Understandably, constantly being on guard is not such a fun way to spend a holiday, but in the long run, being safe is ALWAYS better t! han being sorry. Think about it this way: Who wants to remember their vacation for "losing" a favorite ring or a substantial amount of money? If you say "Nobody", you are CORRECT!

Vacations SHOULD be FUN - and memorable for things other than being a victim of a crime.

Fortunately, there are ways to have fun and to be safe!

It's important to remember that not everybody gets mugged while on vacation, but bad things sometimes do happen, so the following are some suggestions and advice on how to handle yourself while visiting Italy:

A centrally-located hotel can be both a blessing and a curse. The good news, of course, is the fact that you are in the center of a major tourist place, such as Rome or Florence. All the famous sites and attractions are at arm's reach! The bad news: Most of the shady characters mingle in tourist centers, and are ready to reach inside your pockets! These thieves usually work in groups. For example, one might distract you b! y "accidentally" stepping on your foot, and while he is "apolo! gizing" his partner is swiftly going through your pockets. Another popular method to distract you is to a have a "dog" bite the back of your leg. As you turn around to see what is going on, the "doggy owner's" buddy robs you. Also, beware of anyone who offers you a flower or a colorful handkerchief. Again, this con artist is attempting to trick you into not paying attention to your surroundings, and is prepared to swipe some of your money. Never lose track of where you are, and who is around you. Enjoy the sights! But also keep an eye out for trouble. Some of the more targeted cities (and areas) include the aforementioned Rome (near the Termini Train Station, Coliseum, Spanish Square, Trevi Fountain), Naples, Florence, and Pompeii.

Another thing to remember is to ALWAYS leave your valuables locked in the hotel's safe. Do not carry too much cash, and limit yourself to only one credit card. Also, make several copies of important documents, such as your passport, and keep these ! copies stored at different locations: one in your suitcase, another in the safe, and yet another one at home. In the unfortunate event that you are mugged, your valuables, and most importantly your passport will be safe and sound. If you are carrying cash, make sure you keep it in a security pouch or a money belt underneath your clothes. Never keep money in a back pocket or in an easily-accessible purse. Do not leave your purse sitting on a table while you eat, or hanging from the back of your chair. Your purse should always be on your body. Otherwise, you become a prime target of a purse snatcher - be it on foot or on a motorcycle. And please avoid wearing too much jewelry! These thieves will not care if they tear your earrings off with your ear attached!

Whenever possible avoid public transportation and take a cab instead. Metros and buses are major fairgrounds for pickpockets. Where there is a crowd, there is a good chance that confusion may arise, and this makes ! for a perfect opportunity for a pickpocket to go to work.
Bewar e of anyone who behaves oddly around you. Sure you may appear paranoid, but wouldn't you rather be paranoid than victimized? Pickpockets and muggers seek out the vulnerable. If you look like you are aware of your surroundings, nobody will attempt to mess with you!

These suggestions are not meant to scare anyone. You ARE supposed have a good time while visiting Italy, but a little preparation and caution will go a long way, and you are bound to truly have a memorable vacation!

Designing the cars

Designing the cars Webwww.articlecube.com

Home | Travel & Leisure | Travel Tips

Designing the carsBy: Robert Baird, Posted On: 2007-12-25

The art of designing the appearance of a vehicle is referred to as automotive design and it is of extreme importance in the present era where impressive external features are necessary and contribute extensively to ensure that a vehicle is adored by consumers and thus set cash registers ringing. It must be mentioned here, that the art of automotive design is applicable for not only automobiles and cars but also in case of heavier vehicles like trucks and vans and buses as well. It is the automotive engineers who play the most significant role in! ensuring a perfect and adaptable design for a car and these designers are usually proficient in the field of art and industrial design. The concept of designing a vehicle is extremely important not only for giving it an attractive outer appearance but also at the same time it must be worked out bearing in mind the marketability of the car as well.

There are several facets of designing an automobile. These include exterior designing and interior designing, graphic designs, color and trim design. External styling refers to the conceptualization of the outer appearance of the vehicle and the entire processing occurs after creating a sketch and then giving shape to the forms and surface of the car. The industrial plastiscine model is most significant in determining the design of a car. Interior styling refers to the art of giving full form to the internal components like door liners, pillar trims, seats etc. Different graphic representations like switches, dials, liveri! es are also conceptualized by the automotive designers. One of! the mos t important constituents of car designing is applying the surface color which gives a proper look to the final appearance of the car.

It was in the early 1920s in the United States that Alfred. P. Sloan Jr. devised the art of creating car designs which would undergo changes annually. This was a result of the monotony in prevalent car designs over long periods of time which had resulted in the formation of a saturation point in the automobile market of the country. This process of replacing designs annually was popularly referred to by Sloan as 'dynamic obsolescence'. However, while this was a feature which could be adopted easily by the bigger automobile manufacturers, such regular re-styling was an expensive option for ht smaller manufacturers which therefore affected their sales adversely. In present times, the car designs are totally based on consumer demands.

A Night on the Town in New Jersey

A Night on the Town in New Jersey Webwww.articlecube.com

A Night on the Town in New JerseyBy: temp, Posted On: 2007-12-21

Ladies - trying to impress your man? Or are you looking for the perfect gift for him for the holidays? Well, here's one gift he won't soon forget.

Take him to a sports event in a limo. Whether he likes football, basketball or hockey - arriving to his favorite sporting event in style and luxury will definitely leave a lasting impression with him (not to mention, an impression on everyone who sees him get out of the limo).

So if you're a northerner and live in the New Jersey area, why not take your man on a leisurely ri! de through Newark while sipping champagne, or, if he prefers something a little more "manly," you can sip or guzzle down some beer.

Or, instead of you joining him in the manly fun, you can buy him the rental limo and the hot club seat he's been dreaming of, and he can share the night of fun with his other hockey-loving friends.

Having a night with the guys in a limo and watching the New Jersey Devils from club seats will be the ultimate gift. But if you do decide to join him and his guys then you really should think about doing some research. If the Devils are his favorite team, you might want to brush up on the Devils history before you go off and join him in the fun. Study up on your Devils' history so you can really impress him.

The New Jersey Devils Hockey Club started out as the Kansas Scouts in 1974. It then moved to Denver and stayed there for two years and finally settled in New Jersey 1982. Their first game as the New Jersey Devils was playe! d against the Pittsburgh Penguins with a score of 3-3. Yet, th! e first game that they won was played against the New York Rangers with the final score being 3-2.

The team's mascot, the Devil, was actually voted on in a contest that was held between local newspapers. The team's original mascot was "Slapshot," a hockey puck. But in 1993 the mascot was changed because of a scandal that Slapshot had been involved in.

The Devils' biggest rivals are the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers. Their rivalry with the Rangers stems mostly from their physical closeness to one another. On the hand, the rivalry they have with the Flyers is because since 1995either the Flyers or the Devils have won the Atlantic Division title every year. There is a very tight and tense relationship between these two teams.

Some of the best players that have helped the Devils to be the best are Patrik Elias, John Madden, Brian Gionta, Travis Zajac, and Zach Parise, They have been the Stanley Cups champions for the '94-'95, '99-'00, and the '02-'! 03 seasons.

So go work up a little knowledge of the Devils, rent a nice limousine, and book some club seat tickets for your special man. He'll be the happiest man when he discovers what you have done for him.

The perfect vacation is a very subjective thing and will depend on how you prefer to travel, your interests, budget, and how important luxury is to you. In any case, good vacation tips will eliminate unwanted surprises.

Before you start scheduling destinations and hotels, you may want to think about what kind of vacation you and your group want to have. Scouting out destinations with appealing activities often yields a more pleasurable vacation experience than simply going to a generic tourist hotspot that can mean getting sucked in by all of the usual tourist traps.

Of course, mode of transportation also plays a large role in the vacation experience. For vast distances, many vacationers opt for plane tickets because of the speed of travel, but others consider the journey half the fun. If you want to see what lies in between you and your destination but don't want to drive, you might want to consider traveling via train. Sharm-El-Sheikh, popularly only "Sharm", is located at the southern tip of Sinai Peninsula, Egypt. It is situated on a narrow coastal strip between the Red Sea and Mount Sinai where the Reef meets the mountains and Desert compliments the Red Sea.

Sharm-El-Sheikh enjoys year round dry and bracing climate; the average temperature ranges from 80˚F high to 69˚F low. Due to its enchanting landscape, temperate climate and stretches of long natural beaches along the clear, calm water, Sharm-El-Sheikh has become a very popul! ar tourist destination. The 250 different coral reefs and 1000 species of fish among other marine life are unmatched anywhere in the world and they offer a thrilling and challenging time to divers. Various watersports, particularly recreational scuba diving and snorkeling available here are considered to be among the best in the world.

Na'ama Bay is the most popular resort in Sharm-El-Sheikh and offers numerous activities, live entertainment, restaurants, caf? bars, dive shops, casinos, shopping, underwater photography and other attractions. From here make a visit to the Sinai Desert and enjoy excellent Bedouin cuisine.

Om El Seed Hill has a spectacular beach with sea reefs ideal for relaxing and swimming.

Ras Mohammed, located south of Sharm-El-Shei! kh, is an underwater National park. Experienced divers find de! light in the amazing reefs. The Red Sea offers opportunities for snorkeling and if you don't snorkel or dive, take a tour in a glass-bottomed boat to get a glimpse of the Red Sea coral reefs & marine life. There are beautiful reefs in Shark's Bay and Ras Um Sid, located next to the lighthouse and the beach here attracts a lot of crowd. A visit to the Aqualand waterpark, built as a replica of the famous Abu Simble Temple with pharonic statues, is an experience you must not miss.

From the resort, approximately a 3-hour drive away, is Mt. Saint Catherine Monastery built in 542 AD. You must visit Mt. Moses, "Moses' Well" and the burning bush. You can book a full-day excursion of 157 km drive to discover the awe-inspiring Colored Canyons.
